Public Relations didn’t begin in
this or the last century. It began, probably, the time man evolved from apes.
There is a definite history to all service sectors, except PR. Because PR always
existed at the subconscious echelon. Lord Krishna practiced it, the Greeks had a
word for it - semamtikos: to signify, to mean. Semantikos means semantics, which
can be defined as how to get people to believe things and do things.
PR, today,
is a service of its own. It has moved out from the shadow of
advertising/marketing as the corporate world is realising the importance of
public relation professionals. William Seward, Lincoln's secretary of state in
1861, once told his friend: "I speak to the newspapers – they have a large
audience and can repeat a thousand times what I want to impress on the public.”
That summarizes the effect of public relations in a nutshell.
PR world over, is seen in two ways, media relations and public engagements. Big corporate
values the latter while the small and medium only focuses on media coverage –
where Rigveda is trying to make a ‘change’. PR is not just about getting press
clippings, it is also about customer, investor, employee and voter relations.
And we are trying to bring this change. Who said one-man cannot change the
world, if not, we wouldn’t have known Mahatma Gandhi and Che Guerra. Rigveda
welcomes you to be a part of this ‘change’.
